Why these picks? How we chose the hotstar best series hindi titles
We used four filters. First, the show must be in Hindi. Second, it must have a clear streaming listing in India. Third, it needs strong audience scores or a big cultural footprint. Finally, it must still hold up on a rewatch.
As a result, we skipped shows with weak writing, even when they were popular. The Empire, for example, sits at around 4.7/10 on IMDb, so it is not in our hotstar best series hindi top ten.
The ten best Hindi series on JioHotstar
1. Asur: the smartest hotstar best series hindi thriller
Asur (2020) pairs two forensic experts with a killer who treats mythology like a puzzle. It has a strong IMDb score of around 8.5/10, and it is the best-rated name on this list. Both seasons stream on JioHotstar, per JustWatch India.
If a friend asks for one pick from the hotstar best series hindi catalogue, this is our answer. It is tight, clever and short enough to finish in two evenings.
2. Special Ops: the spy franchise that grew up
Special Ops (2020) follows RAW officer Himmat Singh, played by Kay Kay Menon, as he hunts a mastermind across years. Season 1 has 8 episodes and rates around 8.5/10 on IMDb. Season 2 arrived on JioHotstar in July 2025 with Prakash Raj, Vinay Pathak and Karan Tacker in the cast.
Espionage works here because the stakes are personal, which is why it ranks high among hotstar best series hindi picks. In short, it is the one to watch if you like Indian spy stories.
3. Aarya: Sushmita Sen’s comeback
Aarya (2020) is a crime drama about a mother who steps into her late husband’s dangerous world. It has three seasons, with 9, 8 and 8 episodes, and an IMDb score of around 7.7/10. It also streams in 4K on JioHotstar.
Sushmita Sen carries every scene. However, the first season is the strongest, so do not judge the show on later episodes alone.
4. Criminal Justice: the courtroom series with a pulse
Criminal Justice began in 2019 and now runs to four seasons. Pankaj Tripathi plays lawyer Madhav Mishra, who takes on tough cases with dry humour. Season 4, titled A Family Matter, premiered on JioHotstar on 22 May 2025.
It also topped viewership charts, with about 27.7 million viewers reported for the new season. JustWatch India lists the first season on JioHotstar, but some seasons appear elsewhere, so check each season before binging.
5. City of Dreams: Mumbai politics, no heroes
City of Dreams (2019) is Nagesh Kukunoor’s political saga about a ruling family and its bitter succession battle. It has 3 seasons and an IMDb score of around 7.7/10. Moreover, the plot twists keep the long first season moving.
It is a long watch, with 30 episodes across three seasons. For that reason, pick it for a free weekend.
6. The Night Manager: glossy and gripping
The Night Manager (2023) adapts John le Carre’s novel with Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur. It has one season of 7 episodes and scores around 7.6/10 on IMDb. The look is premium, even if the pacing is slower than Special Ops.
7. Hostages: short, sharp and tense
Hostages (2019), a solid hotstar best series hindi thriller, is an adaptation of an Israeli series. A surgeon is forced to harm a politician during surgery, or her family pays. It runs 22 episodes over two seasons and rates around 6.8/10 on IMDb.
8. Human: the hospital thriller with a conscience
Human (2022) tackles illegal drug trials with Shefali Shah and Kirti Kulhari. It has 10 episodes and an IMDb score of around 7.5/10. Because it deals with real ethical questions, it lingers longer than most thrillers.
9. Rudra: The Edge of Darkness: Ajay Devgn’s OTT debut
Rudra (2022) is an adaptation of the British show Luther. It has 6 episodes of about 53 minutes each, and a score of around 6.7/10 on IMDb. It is dark, so it suits viewers who like cat-and-mouse crime stories.
10. Grahan: a serious look at 1984
Grahan (2021) features Pawan Malhotra, Zoya Hussain and Wamiqa Gabbi. It has 8 episodes and moves between 1984 and 2016. Reviews were mixed because of its pacing, but the subject matter is bold. Check JustWatch India for current availability.

Binge order and viewing tips
Order matters for a few of these hotstar best series hindi shows. Follow these tips to avoid spoilers and confusion.
- Start with Asur. It is short, polished and a great test of whether JioHotstar suits your taste.
- Watch Special Ops in sequence. Season 1, the follow-up episodes and then Season 2 build on each other.
- Begin Aarya at Season 1. The character arcs depend on early events.
- Criminal Justice seasons are standalone cases. You can jump in at Season 4 if you want, though Season 1 is the best introduction.
- Save City of Dreams for a long weekend. Its slow start pays off later.

Common mistakes when picking Hotstar series
Many viewers browsing hotstar best series hindi lists choose by thumbnail instead of reading the cast and format. As a result, they land on the weaker shows first.
- Ignoring IMDb scores. Asur and Special Ops sit around 8.5/10, while The Empire sits near 4.7/10.
- Assuming everything is free. Some episodes are free with ads, but full seasons usually need a subscription.
- Skipping season order. Thrillers lose their punch when you start midway.
- Trusting old lists. Catalogues shift, so verify before you subscribe just for one title.
