The next big upcoming Tamil movies are Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 on Deepavali (6 November 2026), then Dhanush and Mammootty’s Om (20 November). Pongal 2027 is expected to bring Seyon, Indian 3 and Inji Vellam. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has been running in theatres since 15 October.

This guide tracks upcoming Tamil movies in theatres and on OTT for the period October 2026 to mid-2027. Every date below comes from producer announcements or reports in outlets such as Pinkvilla, The Week, Outlook, DT Next, Hollywood Reporter India and Esquire India.

Release calendars for upcoming Tamil movies shift constantly, however. So we label each film Released, Confirmed, Expected or TBA, and we explain what each label means. Streaming details are for India, as of 19 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Deepavali weekend (6 November) has two confirmed Tamil films: Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2.
  • Jailer 2 released in theatres on 15 October 2026 and is running now; its OTT debut is expected roughly four weeks later.
  • Dhanush and Mammootty’s Om moved from 16 October to 20 November to avoid a clash with Jailer 2.
  • Pongal 2027 is crowded on paper: Seyon, Indian 3 and Inji Vellam are all reported for January, but none has an official date yet.
  • Most 2026 Tamil hits reached OTT about 28 days after their theatrical release, so a four-week wait is the safest assumption.

What do Confirmed, Expected and TBA mean?

  • Released: the film is already in theatres.
  • Confirmed: the producer has officially announced a date, usually with a poster or promo.
  • Expected: reliable trade reports point to a window, but the makers have not locked a date.
  • TBA: the film is in production, postponed, or stuck, and no credible window exists yet.

We apply these labels to all upcoming Tamil movies on this page, and we only upgrade a film to Confirmed when the producer announces a date.

October 2026: Jailer 2 in theatres and what moved

October has effectively been a one-film month for Kollywood. Jailer 2 took the long Dussehra weekend, and rival producers moved out of its way rather than split screens.

Jailer 2: released on 15 October and running now

Nelson Dilipkumar’s sequel brings Rajinikanth back as “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian. Sun Pictures produces, and Anirudh Ravichander composes again. S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu join returning cast members Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu.

The film released in theatres on 15 October 2026 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada, and it is running now. Before release, The Week, citing Sacnilk, reported advance bookings of over ₹38 crore gross. So if you have not seen it yet, it is still the main event in Tamil cinemas until Deepavali.

There is a catch for North Indian viewers, though. The Week reported that PVR INOX and Cinepolis would not screen the Hindi version, because the producers plan a streaming release within four weeks and the chains want eight. You can read the film’s full background on its Wikipedia page.

Irandu Vaanam: pulled from 23 October

Ramkumar’s reunion with Vishnu Vishal, after Mundasupatti and Ratsasan, was set for 23 October. However, producer Sathya Jyothi Films postponed it on 10 October and promised a new date “very soon”. Treat it as TBA until that announcement.

Why did Om leave October?

Dhanush and Mammootty’s Om was originally dated 16 October. Instead, the makers moved it to 20 November so it would not fight Jailer 2 for screens, as Pinkvilla and Outlook reported in early October.

November 2026: Deepavali releases and Om

Deepavali weekend is the busiest slot for upcoming Tamil movies this season, and it is now the next big date on the calendar. Two films are locked for Friday, 6 November, and a third star vehicle follows two weeks later.

Scene (6 November): Suriya’s Deepavali film

Romancham and Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan makes his Tamil debut with Scene. Suriya plays DSP Inbaraj, with Nazriya Nazim and Naslen in key roles. The title arrived on 9 September and the first single on 8 October.

Suriya is in strong form, too. Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons both did big business in 2026, so Scene carries real momentum into the festival weekend.

Mookuthi Amman 2 (6 November): Nayanthara returns as the goddess

Sundar C directs this devotional fantasy sequel, produced by Vels Film International. Nayanthara leads, with Duniya Vijay, Regena Cassandrra and Urvashi. The teaser came out on 14 September. Meanwhile, the original Mookuthi Amman went straight to OTT in 2020, so this is the franchise’s first theatrical outing.

In late September, some reports claimed VFX work could push the film past Deepavali. However, the makers have not announced any change, so 6 November still stands. Pinkvilla has also reported a JioHotstar streaming deal, which is not yet official.

Om (20 November): Dhanush and Mammootty together

Amaran director Rajkumar Periasamy directs Om, with Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Indrans in support. Pairing Dhanush with Mammootty gives it strong Kerala appeal. Similarly, its solo November slot means it will not split audiences with the Deepavali films.

December 2026: the wildcard month

None of the major upcoming Tamil movies has an official December date yet. Instead, two long-pending titles could land here if their situations change.

Dhruva Natchathiram: will it finally release?

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s spy thriller with Vikram was shot years ago and has stayed stuck over finances. The Madras High Court allowed its release after most debts were settled, and the deadline was later extended to 31 October. Still, there is no release date, so we list it as TBA.

Could Dharman move to December?

Rajinikanth’s next was planned for Pongal 2027. One Tamil report has asked whether it could arrive in December instead, but nothing official supports that. More recent reports point the other way, towards April 2027.

Pongal 2027 upcoming Tamil movies: who is in the race?

Pongal falls in mid-January, and it is the other big festive window for upcoming Tamil movies. At the moment, every Pongal 2027 title is Expected rather than Confirmed.

Seyon: Sivakarthikeyan’s mass entertainer

Sivakumar Murugesan directs Seyon for Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International. Bhagyashri Borse, Raj B. Shetty and Seeman co-star. The film was first announced for October 2026, but the shoot only began on 18 May. Pinkvilla’s 7 October report says it is now expected for Pongal 2027.

Indian 3: Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s comeback attempt

Lyca Productions released new “war mode” posters in October. Reports say Shankar is finishing the remaining shoot and post-production for a Pongal 2027 release. However, Lyca has not announced a date, and Indian 2’s 2024 response leaves plenty to prove.

Inji Vellam: Mani Ratnam’s romance

Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi pair up for the first time in this Kolkata-set drama. A. R. Rahman composes the music. The title and first look came out on 7 September, and reports point to a January 2027 release.

Dharman: Pongal or late April?

Ashwath Marimuthu directs Rajinikanth as a doctor, with Ram Pothineni reportedly the antagonist. Raaj Kamal Films and Turmeric Media produce. A 9 October Pinkvilla report says Dharman may vacate Pongal for Indian 3 and could move to 30 April 2027. Since both films involve Kamal Haasan, a clash looks unlikely.

February to mid-2027: the summer slate

Beyond Pongal, dates for upcoming Tamil movies thin out quickly. These big-star films have a year but no day.

Dare Devil (AK64): Ajith Kumar’s next

Good Bad Ugly director Adhik Ravichandran reunites with Ajith Kumar. DT Next reported the title, Dare Devil, along with a September shoot start and a summer 2027 target. Anirudh replaced G. V. Prakash as composer.

Arasan: Silambarasan TR and Vetrimaaran

Arasan was expected for Deepavali 2026 at one stage. By August, however, Pinkvilla was reporting a 2027 release, with Vijay Sethupathi also in the cast.

Power House and Marshal: upcoming Tamil movies without dates

Vikram’s Chiyaan 63, directed by Anand Shankar, is titled Power House and is slated for 2027 with no date. Karthi’s period drama Marshal, directed by Tamizh, still had about half its shoot left in August, according to Pinkvilla. Both stay TBA for now.

Which big stars have no film in this window?

Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, billed as his final film, already released on 23 July 2026. So there is no new Vijay film to track. Kamal Haasan’s KH237 with Anbariv and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi 2 also have no release window yet.

Tamil theatre-to-OTT releases: recent hits and what is coming

Enna Vilai and Dorothy are now streaming

Sajeev Pazhoor’s Enna Vilai, a social drama with Karunas and Nimisha Sajayan, is now streaming on Netflix (since 15 October) in five languages. Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, with Keerthy Suresh, followed on Netflix on 23 October, exactly four weeks after its theatrical release.

Baththa and Sigma: early-October releases

Balaji Tharaneetharan’s Baththa, a 1980s Madras gangster comedy with Vijay Sethupathi, and Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma, with Sundeep Kishan, both opened in the first week of October. Reports name Netflix for each, but neither has an official streaming date. If the four-week pattern holds, expect them around late October or early November.

How long after theatres do Tamil movies come to OTT?

In 2026, the answer has been remarkably consistent, which helps when planning upcoming Tamil movies on OTT. We checked the gap between theatrical and streaming dates for every Tamil hit with confirmed dates on both sides.

Theatre-to-OTT gap for 2026 Tamil releases
Movie Theatre OTT Gap
Karuppu 15 May 12 June (Prime Video) 28 days
Jana Nayagan 23 July 21 August (ZEE5) 29 days
Vishwanath & Sons 14 August 11 September (Netflix) 28 days
Hi 28 August 25 September (ZEE5) 28 days
Mandaadi 10 September 8 October (Netflix) 28 days
Enna Vilai 17 September 15 October (Netflix) 28 days
Sardar 2 10 September 1 October (Prime Video) 21 days

In short, four weeks is now the default for Tamil films, even ₹300-crore grossers like Karuppu and Jana Nayagan. Sardar 2 shows that a film can arrive even sooner, in just three weeks.

That pattern makes it easy to predict when upcoming Tamil movies will stream. For example, Scene and Mookuthi Amman 2 should reach OTT in early December if they follow the norm, although neither has announced a date.

Hindi theatrical versions are different, though. National multiplex chains insist on an eight-week gap for Hindi releases, which is why PVR INOX and Cinepolis said they would not play Jailer 2’s Hindi version. As a result, Hindi-speaking fans of big Tamil films increasingly watch the dubbed version on OTT instead.

Our rule of thumb for upcoming Tamil movies on OTT

  • Small and mid-budget films: expect three to four weeks, often on a Thursday or Friday.
  • Star films that are still selling tickets: expect four weeks, sometimes five or six if the theatrical run is strong.
  • Films that underperform: they can stream in as little as two to three weeks.

How to track upcoming Tamil movies release dates (expert tips)

Most release date pages for upcoming Tamil movies mix official dates with fan rumours. Here is how our desk separates the two.

  1. Check the producer’s handle first. Sun Pictures, Lyca, Raaj Kamal Films and others announce dates with a poster. No poster usually means no confirmed date.
  2. Read the verb in the headline. “Locks” or “announces” signals a confirmed date. Meanwhile, “eyes”, “likely” or “reportedly” means Expected at best.
  3. Watch for clash moves. When a Rajinikanth or Vijay date lands, smaller films shift within days, as Om and Irandu Vaanam did this October.
  4. Look at the opening credits for the OTT partner. Tamil films usually name their digital partner on screen, as Dorothy did with Netflix.
  5. Count four weeks for streaming. Then confirm on the platform’s own app or on JustWatch India before you plan a watch party.

Common mistakes when following Tamil release news

  • Trusting aggregator calendars that list unconfirmed films on a fixed day. Several sites still list Seyon in October, for example.
  • Assuming the satellite TV partner is also the OTT partner. Often they are different companies.
  • Ignoring dubbed versions. Most big Tamil films now stream in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada on the same day.

The biggest upcoming Tamil movies for the rest of 2026 are Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 (both 6 November, Deepavali) and Dhanush’s Om (20 November). All three have official dates. Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is already running in theatres since 15 October, while Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram still has no date.

Which Tamil movies are releasing for Deepavali 2026?

Two Tamil films are confirmed for Deepavali weekend on Friday, 6 November 2026. They are Scene, starring Suriya and directed by Jithu Madhavan, and Mookuthi Amman 2, starring Nayanthara and directed by Sundar C. Silambarasan TR’s Arasan was once expected for Deepavali, but reports now point to 2027.

Which Tamil movies are releasing for Pongal 2027?

No Pongal 2027 Tamil release is officially confirmed yet. Reports point to Sivakarthikeyan’s Seyon, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 3 and Mani Ratnam’s Inji Vellam. Rajinikanth’s Dharman was also planned for Pongal, but recent reports suggest it may move to 30 April 2027. Expect official dates for these upcoming Tamil movies closer to December.

When will Jailer 2 come to OTT?

Jailer 2 released in theatres on 15 October 2026 and is running now, but its OTT platform and date are not announced. However, The Week and Binged reported that the producers plan a streaming release within four weeks. That would place it around mid-November 2026. Check the official Sun Pictures handles before relying on any specific date.

How many days after theatres do Tamil movies release on OTT?

Most Tamil films in 2026 streamed about 28 days after release. Karuppu, Jana Nayagan, Vishwanath & Sons, Hi, Mandaadi and Enna Vilai all followed this four-week pattern. Sardar 2 was quicker, arriving on Prime Video after 21 days. Hindi theatrical versions need an eight-week gap at major multiplex chains.

Where can I watch new Tamil movies on OTT in India?

Recent Tamil releases are spread across platforms. Netflix has Vishwanath & Sons and Mandaadi, Prime Video has Karuppu and Sardar 2, and ZEE5 has Jana Nayagan and Hi, as of 19 October 2026. Enna Vilai is now streaming on Netflix (since 15 October). Always confirm on the platform app or JustWatch India, especially for upcoming Tamil movies.

Is Ajith Kumar’s next film releasing in 2026?

No. Ajith Kumar’s AK64, now titled Dare Devil and directed by Adhik Ravichandran, was reported by DT Next to be targeting summer 2027. Its shoot was set to begin in September 2026. So, Ajith fans will have no new theatrical release during the rest of 2026.

Final word: how to plan your upcoming Tamil movies watchlist

The upcoming Tamil movies calendar rewards a little planning. Pick between Scene and Mookuthi Amman 2 for Deepavali on 6 November, then save Om for 20 November. After that, leave Pongal open until the producers lock dates.

For everything else, follow the four-week rule and let streaming come to you. We will keep updating this list of upcoming Tamil movies as dates move. Meanwhile, browse more upcoming movie release dates or head to TBA Daily’s OTT release coverage for the latest streaming news.
